Rejoice Voluntary Blood Donation Day & Free Medical Camp

The  camp for "Rejoice Voluntary Blood Donation Day & Free Medical Camp" started at around 9 am in the morning on Sunday,25th September '16 in the Rajeev colony of Faridabad. There has been an amazing response by residents of Rajeev colony. The residents were requested to take the tokens from the volunteers and wait for their turn to avail the services provided in the camp. The camp became more busy after half hour of its start when more residents spread the news in word of mouth and were ready to attend the camp.90+ residents were privileged to take up the service provided by the S3 team. The camp had the following objectives for the day's activity.

1:Monitoring the blood pressure and blood sugar level of the residents of the colony

For residents above 20 years of age upto 45, the random blood glucose level was monitored using the glucometer and blood pressures were checked using the digital gadget. For those residents whose random blood glucose were on the higher side ,suggestions were given such as visiting the nearby ALL INDIA INSTITUTE OF AYURVEDIC SCIENCES,Gauthampuri,Aali village,New Delhi. In that hospital the consultations ,medicines and treatment were given free of cost to the needy. Oral suggestions of dietary restrictions such as the foods to be avoided like the direct sugars, sweets were also provided by the volunteers. The blood pressure or the BP of the residents were also monitored by the S3 team members. Those who had values below normal were advised a high sodium diet and for those people whose BP were high, suggestions like avoiding sodium rich foods in the diet were given.

2:Checking the body weight

This activity  is one of its kind of regularly checking the body mass of people and informing them of their body weight. Patients below and above the normal weight were advised about food habits & exercise.

3:Identifying the blood group of residents between the age group of 18 to 40 years -"Small drops make an ocean" The S3 Team was able to identify the willing donors among the residents of this colony whose blood groups like O+ve,AB +ve,B+ve,O-ve were identified. We even witnessed 1 AB- (the rarest of all group. Less than 1% population has it). The importance of blood donation during emergencies and the need for the donors within the same colony so that there is no scarcity of blood were shared by the volunteers.

4:Issuing of the "Voluntary blood donors ID card" for all those whose blood groups were identified.- This activity was done to ensure that the willing blood donors can register as a volunteer for donation in times of needs and emergencies. Most of the young eligible donors also agreed to volunteer to donate blood during emergency. They also consented to register themselves as voluntary blood donors with Selfless Service Society. Couple of them were enthused to serve "Selflessly".

5 : Continuted the "Fight Against Denue and Chikungunya"

Covered both Rajeev Colony & Santosh Nagar. Two members of S3 ensured that both these colonies are covered within 2-3 hours. Couple of patients who turned up compalined about body pain, there were given advise by the All India Insitute of Ayurveda team. The entire locality has around 500-1000 residents, with this the fight against Dengue and Chikungunya campaign has helped 6000 residents so far.

Fight Against Dengue & Chikungunya

The Selfless Service Society volunteers initiated a "Fight Against Dengue and Chikungunya" drive across various infected areas in Delhi. This one month program (September 2016) aims at creating great awareness among the public about the impact of the mosquito killer diseases which is assuming huge size in the lives of people in Delhi.

The S3 team assembled as a group during the weekends and assigned the following activities as a part of awareness campaign. The agenda had the following list of activities which includes:

1:Use of Mosquitoes repellents and spray cans with pumps :

This pumping of mosquitoes repellant through the spray cans helped to cover the residential base of approximately 5000 + in infection prone areas like Vishwakarma Colony, Badarpur, Aali, LIG flats & School Of Gautam Puri, Okhla and Sarita Vihar, Tuglakabad etc. S3 team was encouraged by the residents who acknowledged the contribution. Few of them were curious to participate and were willing to start similar initiative to prevent the disease.

2: Distribution of free homeopathic medicines to the affected individuals:

This activity helped the affected persons to a great extent as the medicines were issued “free of cost” and effective against the infection. About 140 patients benefited from this part of the campaign. The S3 team is aiming to distribute more such medicines free of cost to the needy during the subsequent camps.

3: Issuing pamplets about the preventive measures:

As we all know,"Prevention is better than cure " , the campaign's important objective was to create awareness about the dreadful disease of mosquitoes and how to prevent the same. Pamphlets having detailed information of simple yet important ,easy safety measures like covering water tanks with proper lids, drinking a boiled and safe water free from germs, sprinkling mosquito repellents across the open areas, wearing fully covered clothes, cleaning the garbage etc were highlighted.

S3 team is more charged to continue head-on with Dengue & Chikungunya. Those interested may contact them.

Joy of Selflessly Giving!

As it is rightly said that , "the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others "

Deriving inspiration from the above quote, the Selfless Service Society organized  used clothes distribution camps at two different locations in last one year.

    1. 2nd October 2015 at Santosh Nagar, Faridabad,Haryana and
    2. 31st July 2016 at  Gautampuri, Sarita Vihar, New Delhi.

Both camps lasted for nearly 4 hours when the clothes were sorted according the age and gender in the beginning. The volunteers from all corners reached on time to start the activity on a sunday morning. The passersby were invited to know about the activity of the day and the importance of the selfless service society was cascaded to them in the local language. The common men were very keen to know about the selfless service society and its objective. Few of them volunteered to give their phone numbers for spot registration as volunteers.

The children were calm and happy to receive the clothes donated after checking if it really fits them which shows that they were not greedy at all.We wish such young children who are the pillars of tomorrow are imbibed with such good attributes of a selfless, responsible citizen. Nearly 100+ KG of clothes were distributed to the needy.

The indefinite joy and happiness of the needy on receiving the clothes knew no bounds. "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give " . The volunteers   distributed the clothes on need basis to the children, men and women folks in a systematic way  and they were kind enough to receive them without any hassles.

After all the clothes being distributed, the importance and objective of the society were discussed with the crowd who were very enthusiastic and motivated about the goal of the society.New Volunteers from all angles were very curious to know about the next agenda and other camps and events of the society, few  volunteered to participate.
